Whanau exhibition
At Artframes, 69 Kenepuru Drive
2 September – 30 September
I would love you to come along and experience my work. If you would like to meet me at the Gallery please contact me on 021 497 125 or drop me an email lisa@lisa-janemyers.com.
Here is my artist statement to give you an idea of my work.
WHANAU
My work is created from my experiences, of what I see and feel in my heart and body. I am a trained psychic medium (matakite) so I am very sensitive and highly tuned to my environment.
Completing my Mastercraft certificate in December 2009 at Whitireia Polytechnic was my launching pad for this exhibition.
My exhibition is about whanau (family) and how I have grown through my experiences with them. I am who I am because of this journey.
Through my psychic abilities I am able to speak with my ancestors, I translate their lives and reproduce this through my art. This work encapsulates their experiences of the Maori wars, of losing land and their integration to living with Pakeha. I am deeply moved to be able to communicate in this way.
I enjoy the physical process of felting wool and dyeing silks, I find it very therapeutic. I like adding layer upon layer to a piece and watching as the light catches it to bring it alive.
Nga mihi nui ki a koe

Come over to Facebook and send me a "friend request".....as my blog posts have been a little far and few between lately! That way you will be able to see what I have been up to...I look forward to seeing you on Facebook and I look forward to finishing my university/tech for the year in November so that I can be posting on here a lot more often.

This week we had an intensive with Jill Taylor (www.hellodollies.co.nz) learning to make hats. It was fun, and it required a bit of hand stitching which I am not that fond of. It was worth it though -as you can see here I made this little leopard skin number which is hand stitched right around the outside!

I have always loved to create dream boards, mine are full of pictures of things that inspire me and of course of the dreams that I have. Checkout the second one which is full of fabrics which I did way back in October when I had know idea I was going to be a textiles student?? lol!! Then there is my new one which I have just created which is full of fabrics, stitching's and flowers......lets see what comes to fruition?? My dream is to be a textile designer and make fabrics for people....
above is the dreamboard I have created for now.... This is my last dreamboard!

I really am enjoying the balance of my textiles studies along with doing my spiritual studies too! I am being given my second attunement in Kundalini Reiki and in two weeks when I have my 3rd attunement, I will be able to attune others. I am also doing the Plant essences course through Fist Light Flower essences. These essences are very subtle but make such a profound difference......I am looking forward to completing this so I can make up essences for everyone!
